Dear Krokeates and friends We are almost
there, only three weeks left until our 50thAnnual Convention
being held here in Rochester the 4th of July weekend.
Have you made your plans yet? Are you going to join us? Just a few days left for your hotel reservations. We
have planned lots of fun activities for the young and young at heart, and are continuously working to
make this convention one of the most memorable ones. Although we understand
many of us make our decision to attend the convention a few days before,
we are concerned about the low number of hotel reservations thus far. Our commitment
needs to be made very soon with a final head count of attendees. We had positive
responses from some of you for our plea for
selling or buying the raffle tickets we had enclosed in our last letter.
Several of you even asked for more tickets to sell but we have not heard
from most of you. As you
may know, the past several years the raffle was distributed /sold through
dedicated Krokeates living primarily in cities with large Krokean communities.
They took the time to make phone calls to convince
the rest of us to purchase a raffle ticket. With this year’s raffle,
you (all of us) have the opportunity to participate and win big cash
prizes and, at the same time, help with our
generosity, build a strong future for our society. So please, consider
purchasing at least one of the tickets and try to sell the other two
each at half price to your friends and relatives. Please return
the raffle stubs as soon as you can. If possible,
today? Also, please make sure to note on the back of one of stubs whether
you are coming to the convention or not.
Please take the time to do this even if you are coming to the
convention, as you will be helping us tremendously in giving an accurate
tally for the commitment we have for
the final number of attendees which we
need to make to the hotel soon. With pleasure
and for your enjoyment, we have enclosed another picture of our beautiful
town. These and other photos are also available in various sizes including
posters size that you may purchase from our convention booth or we could
ship them to you. We are living, from many aspects,
in very stressful times, and some of us may choose not to travel. We
understand. We also believe that you will do your best to help our society
in the best way you can. Please return your raffle stubs with your check (NO CASH)
today! Thank you. We are waiting to see you. The Krokean families of Rochester P.S
We like to remind you about our society’s “Educational
Awards” totaling $2,500.00 to be awarded during our Saturday
gala to four of our students. Complete and return the application we
enclosed in our first letter as soon as possible. For more information
please call Nick Merianos at (617) 327-2503 or (617) 784-0657 For hotel information please check our society’s

The days are fast approaching for our big celebration, our 50th yes! 50th convention to be held here in Rochester this coming 4th, 5th &6th of July. We ought to be proud of our society as it has served us well for over half a century .We should do our best to support it because of the great opportunity it gives us to see our friends and reconnect with our heritage. Rochester's central location is an easy drive for most Krokeans living in the eastern United States and the eastern Provinces of Canada. Please Join us in this once in a lifetime celebration. Our city may not be a big metropolis but it has it all without being expensive. From the hotel room rate ($79 for luxurious room) to the cost of a full course breakfast at the popular BENNIGAN'S restaurant on the hotel's ground floor, this convention is not going to be an expensive one but will have all the trimmings! Travel will be limited as most of the activities are scheduled to take place at the hotel in the heart of our clean city. Experience a boat ride on the historic Erie Canal where American history was made and have fun reminiscing with poems and songs we once learned in grammar school. Come see where the founder of our city, the great philhellin Nathaniel Rochester once stood speaking to his countrymen to help raise funds in support of the Greek Revolution. In 1821 Rochester then small village, managed to raise more than $3,000 for the fighting Greeks. Our largest suburb is called Greece and many of the streets have Greek names. Our society with its many programs (Scholarships for our US and Canadian students, newsletter, web page, mailing and annual support to organizations in our town) has great annual expenses. The biggest fundraiser for our conventions is our annual raffle drawing. As you see we've made this year's raffle very affordable with three chances to win substantial cash prizes. If it is impossible for you to attend this year we hope that you will purchase or sell the three raffle tickets we have enclosed and return the stubs along with your check before the convention. Please DO NOT send cash. Along with the raffles we have enclosed a commemorative photo of our beautiful town for your family and future generations to enjoy. Dear Krokeates,
as we all know, it is up to all of us to make a convention a successful
one. We, as organizers, are certain that this 50th convention will be
a wonderful experience and will create great memories for all who join
us! Don't delay in making your reservations. Make them today! And please
be sure to mention that you are attending the Krokeai Society event
to be sure you'll receive our terrific room rate. This will also guarantee
that your room reservation is counted towards the minimum obligation
we have on filling a certain number of rooms. Don't miss out. Show your
support for our society, our hometown and our heritage! We hope to see
you all this 4th of July. For hotel info.,
please check our societys'website at: www.krokeai.com
April 2003 Dear Krokeates
and friends, As previously announced in our society's newsletter "Krokeatika",we the Krokeates of Rochester are extremely pleased and honored to be hosting our " 50th Annual Convention". For this once in a life time experience we have reserved one of Rochester's finest hotels, the " CLARION-Riverside "(formerly the Four Points Sheraton) located in the center of our city by the banks of the Genesee River. The past several months we have all been working eagerly to make this convention even better than the success we had with the 28th and 39th conventions held here in Rochester. We're planning lots of fun for all and promise a terrific time! Here are some highlights just to give you an idea of what we have in store for you. Mind you, we have made a few changes to the traditional format in order to simplify things and hopefully attract many more of you to this year's very special convention. Friday evening we'll be welcoming you under the stars on the hotel's huge veranda. With full view of the river below we'll be enjoying a variety of homemade Krokean specialties and pastries prepared by our local members. The evening will be capped off by our city's "Fourth of July" fireworks erupting overhead. It's a beautiful sight and many Rochesterians rent rooms at this hotel just to watch the fireworks. Saturday, late morning, we are planning a cruise / brunch down the historic " Erie Canal". The afternoon's annual assembly meeting or other activities some of you may choose, will be followed by our Fiftieth Conventions' Gala, where for sure, will have some delightful surprises! Sunday, again late morning, we'll enjoy our traditional picnic with just a slight deviation from the norm. It will be held right on the hotel's enormous veranda by the Olympic size pool, so….don't forget your bathing trunks! The biggest change we chose to make this year from the traditional format is that we will not be hosting a "Formal" Sunday night gala. In recent years this particular event has not been well attended as some of us have to leave on Sunday due to life's obligations. However, attendance for our picnic is always good. Therefore, we chose to make our picnic the main event for Sunday. It will last for as long as it is attended and those of us who need to leave on Sunday can do so at any time. For the die-hards, those of us who chose to make this convention a three-day event , we have a little something planned. Whenever we are ready, we will visit a terrific nearby Greek restaurant "Mykonos", have dinner (a la carte) and enjoy Greek music. The relaxed atmosphere will allow great conversation and a truly memorable time! But friends, most of all and above everything else, the convention is about the time we spend together, enjoy seeing old friends and making new ones. All the planning in the world will not amount to much if there is not enough participation. Our parents and grandparents who founded the Krokeai Society made great personal and financial sacrifices. We can honor them by joining in their ideals. Although the original goal of our society was to provide running water, greatly needed by every household in our hometown, the promotion and fostering of our Krokean / Greek culture constitutes to be the primary reason of our existence. Yes, it feels good to identify yourself with a great group of people. You do have a home here! Let's continue with our traditions. Join us this Fourth of July for our 50th Annual Convention and have an unforgettable experience. You won't be disappointed!! We are graciously awaiting to welcome you once again to our fair city of Rochester. The organizing
committee
